4 Clinton Street
The Clinton St. Baking Company has developed one hell of a reputation over the last few years and for good reason, this little Lower East Side bakery has put together one of the finest breakfast menus youll find anywhere. Their pancakes draw a crowd for every Sunday brunch that can stretch around the block. If you plan to show up on Sunday, youll want to put your name in about an hour early. And while their pancakes have played a major part the reputation theyve developed, dont sleep on their french toast or eggs benedict for a secondtheyre just as good as the famous pancakes.
We Suggest: Brioche French Toast, $13
198 Allan Street
Pala is definitely my go-to for a hassle-free good meal in the city. While theres no shortage of quality pizza on Manhattan, Pala is a top pick for those that want something that is unique and healthy. With a variety of gluten-free options and a very respectable selection of pastas, this is the perfect choice for those who forgot to make a reservation days in advance. For most people suffering from celiac disease Italian food is something theyd be more than happy going through life without ever hearing about, but Pala has stepped in to save them from an otherwise pizza-free existence. The atmosphere is very nice and the outdoor seating makes it ideal for a long lunch in the spring and summer.
We Suggest: Pizza Zucca, $18
End of Freeman Alley off of Rivington Street
Nestled away in Freeman Alley just off of Rivington Street, this may be the hardest place to find on our list. However, once you do figure out where the entrance is, youll never want to leave. The restaurant is filled with taxidermy and antique furniture that will make you forget youre having dinner in New York City. But Freemans isnt just atmosphere, its also one of the Lower East Sides best restaurants. If youre looking for something hearty, this is the place for you.
We Suggest: Seared Filet Mignon, $26
205 East Houston Street
What would a discussion on Lower East Side eats be without mentioning Katzs Delicatessen? The Houston Street mainstay has been serving up New Yorkers with some of the most egregiously oversized sandwiches in the country for almost 125 years now. Whether you just want to grab a side order of fries or go all in with the famous pastrami sandwich, youll be sure to get your fill. While it would be downright idiotic to say that Katzs Delicatessen is healthy for your body, I proudly claim that its good for your souljust dont go overboard.
We Suggest: The Reuben, $15.75
