Sherbet Hues and Roaring Twenties: Themes of Spring 2012

It’s almost time to ditch those boring blacks and bring some sunshine back into your wardrobe.

With frenzied shoppers snapping up post-Christmas bargains, store shelves are clearing to be replenished with fresh and exciting spring looks.

Late last year, top designers from around the world paraded their creative visions for Spring/Summer 2012. The collections showcased a myriad of exciting colors, prints, fabrics, and cuts—designs that will magically materialize in designer stores in record time.

Fueled by the popularity of the HBO series “Boardwalk Empire,” one of our favorite trends to emerge is the adaptation of signature 1920s looks. The Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren, Tory Burch, and Oscar de la Renta collections are all sprinkled with influences from the Prohibition Era—think drop waists, flouncing fur, flapper dresses, and elaborate art deco beading.

Delicious sherbet hues were also on the cards. Mix into your wardrobe musk pinks, lemon meringue, honeydew melon, peach nectar, and powder blues.

Other springtime trends to keep your eye out for include floral motives and prints, angular color blocking, and earthy tribal detail.
