The long-awaited day is finally here: Kate Middleton wed (her) prince William and the fashion world finally has the answer to its much-speculated over question: who designed the dress? The gorgeous lace long-sleeved masterpiece was created by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. So. All those McQueen rumours youve been hearing, stood tall.

Working closely together over the last few months, Burton and Kate designed a dress with nods to English traditions and (arguably) McQueens signature aesthetic.
Describing Kates choice of dress designer, the Official Royal Wedding Website says, Miss Middleton chose British brand Alexander McQueen for the beauty of its craftsmanship and its respect for traditional workmanship and the technical construction of clothing.
The dress in detail: Made from hand-cut English lace, French Chantilly lace, and ivory and white satin gazar. The Royal School of Needlework assisted Alexander McQueens team with the the lace appliques, which were handmade by using a technique called Carrickmacross. The workers washed their hands every thirty minutes to keep the lace and threads pristine, and the needles were renewed every three hours, to keep them sharp and clean. The flower designs in the lace are of actual flowers: rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock. The duchess shoes, made of ivory duchesse satin with hand-embroidered lace, were also designed by the McQueen team alongside The Royal School of Needlework. For her bouquet, she carried an arrangement of Lilies-of-the-valley, Sweet Williams, Hyacinths, Ivy and Myrtle flowers.
Kates sister, Pippa wore a (surprisingly?) white minimalist heavy satin based crepe dress equally designed by Burton for McQueen.
Kates veil was made of layers of soft, ivory silk tulle with a trim of hand-embroidered flowers, which was also crafted by the Royal School of Needlework. To hold it in place is a Cartier ‘halo’ tiara, lent (read: something borrowed) to Miss Middleton by The Queen.
It was said that the bride did her own makeup, but her manicure was Bourjois Paris in Rose Lounge. Royal wedding watchers better get your bottle fast, its sure to be a sell-out!
For their first dance (which Wills learnt to Waltz for), its being reported that the newlyweds chose Adeles Make You Feel My Love as their song. And for the wedding cake, feast your eyes on this, as by the Official website.
Looking every bit the radiant bride (and yielding comparisons to Grace Kelly), Kate surely won over the (fashion) audience as much with her stunning and classic gown choice as with her sweet, sincere and beautiful disposition. A modern day princess by any account.
